  • Our Sunday School and Youth Group lessons for this week are based off of Ezra 3-4.

Memory Verse: "...And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid." -Ezra 3:11b

Here are a few questions you can ask your kids to help engage with them throughout the week:

    1. What would it look like for us to make worship a more central part of our lives and of our family?

    2. How can opposition strengthen our faith? Parents, tell about a time when you experienced opposition to your faith and how you responded.

    3. What does it look like to build your life on the foundation of God's Word?

    4. What can we do as a family to help each other build this foundation?

Main Takeaway: Worship is a central reality of God's people, meaning that even opposition is an opportunity to live by faith. As the people of God, we can build our lives on the sure foundation of God's Word.

Extra: "On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand" is a beautiful way to understand the power of having Christ as our firm foundation!

  • We're here to come alongside you as you disciple your children!

Here is one resource we thought might be helpful to you this week:

Why Your Family of Origin Impacts Your Life More Than Anything Else by Adam Young. In this podcast, Adam explains how everyone's story starts with the relationship with their parents, and how every child needs 6 things from his or her parents. In this episode, he discusses these "Big Six" needs. He also explains two kinds of relational styles that result from being either dismissed by one's parents or being asked to be a parent rather than a child.

We pray that this is edifying and beneficial to you as you walk through life with your students, and want to remind you that we here at Haven are here for not just your kids, but for you as well! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you’re going through difficulties of any kind.

Thanks for the daily devotionals and discussion questions. We had a great talk with Mya!

Ministry Update:

First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude to all of our parents and volunteers who gave us their time and resources during the last few, busy summer months. Your generosity and dedication allowed us to keep our summer activities running smoothly, and for our students to have lots of fun!

As we move into the fall we wanted to reiterate some of the changes we’ve made in our program, and update you on how we’ve seen the Lord work in Haven.

Firstly, high school and middle school have been separated for both Sunday School and Wednesday night! The high schoolers enjoyed their new space downstairs in the Lounge, and the middle schoolers were able to have more room to run around and have fun playing crazy games upstairs! It was incredibly encouraging to see so many old friends come back from the summer! As we started back up yesterday, we even got to meet some new friends as well. We pray that the Lord would continue to work in the heart of every student who walks through our doors.

Secondly, as you may remember, back in the spring we started asking for more volunteers to help us, and the Lord has most certainly provided—a definite answer to prayer! We are thankful for the Lord’s provision in this area as we now have just enough volunteers to relaunch small groups for our students.

Thank you for your prayers and support! As always, please let us know if there is anything we can be praying about for you!

Your friends,

Matt and Lauren
